Sam Marjaei is an Iranian-born sculptural artist, raised in India and educated in the United States. She holds a BA from Knox College, where she studied Studio Art and Education.
Marjaei’s work explores themes of identity, cultural duality, and alienation. Drawing from her third-culture upbringing, she works primarily with wood to build sculptures that balance intuitive play with precision and emotional resonance. Persian script appears frequently in her recent work—sometimes carved into surfaces, other times shaping the form itself. While fluent in speaking Farsi, she is relearning to write the language through laborious, repeated inscription, transforming her sculptures into acts of both remembrance and reconstruction. This process, coupled with the physical intensity of working at a monumental scale, gives her pieces a layered emotional and material weight.

Her work has been exhibited in A Return Home, a collaborative show with a peer artist; the Knox College Studio Seniors '25 group show; and three consecutive juried exhibitions, where she received an Honorable Mention from Blick Art Materials in 2022. Her artwork has appeared in XJournal, Catch, and Canvas Rebel.
